Abstract

19,164. Beard, W. A. Aug. 20. Movable-abutment type of rotary engine, pump, &c. in which the inlet and outlet ports m are arranged so that the fluid is not deviated axially in the machine. A rotary abutment b is provided with teeth extending across the full width of its periphery except where two recesses g are formed extending across part of the width. These teeth gear with similar teeth formed on the periphery of the piston a, which is provided with two vanes f of the same width as the recesses g. The piston and abutment are thus in constant gear, and the spaces between the teeth assist in carrying fluid from the inlet to the outlet. The vanes f may be provided with packing-strips.
