17,897. Lyon, C. W. Aug. 3. Vehicle-axle bearings. -A pedestal bearing for mining corves or wagons is fitted with a detachable retainer F partly encircling the axle. A bar C on the retainer is passed through a projection B at one end of the bearing A, and is secured by a swinging weighted cotter D, pivoted on a pin E. A pin G is passed through a hole in the end of the bar C or through a hole H in the cotter D, or a second swinging cotter may be jointed to the end of the cotter D to prevent the retainer F from becoming detached in any position of the vehicle. In a modification, the retainer is U-shaped and has two arms C passing through holes in the bearing parallel to the axle, and provided with cotters D or with split pins or nuts. In each case, the fastening takes none of the weight of the wheels and axle when the corve is lifted.
