Abstract

Axle-trucks and bogies; springs, arrangement of and mounting bodies on.-Relates to buffing, draw-bar, and bearing springs for railway and tramway vehicles, of the type in which a number of springs having varying degrees of resilience are arranged so that the lighter shocks are taken up by the weaker springs, the heavier shocks being resisted mainly by the stronger springs. Fig. 1 shows the application to a buffer, in which the weaker spring a is arranged within a casing d, provided with flanges e which bear on the stronger spring b. The casing d is made of such a length that consecutive coils of the springs do not quite come into contact when the springs are fully compressed. Rubber pads f, f<1> are provided as shown, to cushion the final load. Fig. 2 shows the application to the ordinary type of draw-bar. In some cases, three or more springs are used.
