Abstract

Magneto-electric machines; dynamos, driving.- Electric generators for firing fuses &c. are driven by hand through an archimedean screw, and are provided with contacting-devices for connecting to the external circuit at the correct moment. The armature C, Fig. 1, preferably of the double-H type and laminated, is mounted on a tube D and secured by bolts or the like or by means of collars E, one of which may carry a commutator E<1>. A tube N is adapted to be reciprocated by a handle L and carries a nut F which rotates a screwed spindle G supported by a ball bearing H ; this drives the armature through a ratchet J and pawls K, or other suitable clutch. Upon completion of the downward or driving stroke, the external circuit is made by contact between blades Q, Q<1> pressed together by a flange O<1>, operating through a pin P and insulating strip q<1>. The deflexion of the blade Q<1> also breaks contact at q between the armature and an internal resistance. Either the blade Q<1> or the contact q, or both, may be forked or made in two or more parts, having a contact on each, arranged to break circuit successively. The external circuit may also have an automatic contact-maker, preferably operated by the field magnet B. The flexible strip R, Figs. 1 and 5, having preferably more than one contact, is carried by rods r passing through the pole tips and terminating in an iron armature r<1>. The magnet B is preferably series-wound, but may be permanent, and there may be more than one armature. In a modification, the spindle G may be reciprocated, and the field magnets may revolve, the armature being stationary. Means may be provided for preventing use by unauthorized persons.
