Abstract

Block, rubber, and like apparatus.-In brake shoes for acting on the wheels of tramcars &c., of the type comprising a recessed metal holder filled with emery or like abrasive material, the emery &c. is moulded into blocks, which are then attached to the holder so as to be readily removed for renewal. The emery blocks b are made of dovetail form, as shown, and are secured in position in the holder a by wedge-shaped bars c, Figs. 1 and 2, and screws d. They may be further secured by screws e, which pass through slots in the sides of the holder and screw into the bars c, or are screwed into the sides of the holder and bear against the bars c. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the blocks are moulded in separate metal holders f and secured in the holder a by screws g or bars c. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the blocks b are dovetailed in both directions, and one side of the holder a is made loose, or fitted with a separate bar h, so as to clamp the blocks endways. The bars c may be arranged to hold the blocks by an endlong adjustment instead of by inward pressure. According to the Provisional Specification, the emery blocks may have stepped sides.
