Abstract

9050. Monarch, A. April 16. Cold and heat retaining vessels.- A vacuum-jacketed vessel is provided with a stopper consisting of a body part 7 of heatinsulating and somewhat porous material, and a covering 8 of non- porous material of low heat-conductivity. A groove 9 prevents the formation of a vacuum in the vessel owing to condensation of vapours therein. The stopper carries a head 11, which engages a fork 12 fixed to a cap 13. When the cap is screwed on to the outer casing, it forces the stopper to its seat. The stopper is positively withdrawn when the cap is unscrewed. Another cap encloses the cap 13. In a modification, the glass vessel is provided with an additional inner metal casing. The inner casing is notched or bent inwards at its upper end to form a spout over a depression in the upper edge of the glass vessel. In another arrangement, the outer metallic casing is continued upwards beyond the edge of the glass vessel, and a spout is formed in the cylindrical extension. The glass vessel 4, enclosed in an outer metallic casing 15, may be connected thereto only at the upper edges by means of a cement layer 16, so that the glass vessel is held resiliently, clear of the outer casing. The metallic casing has an inwardly-bent upper portion 17 provided with a spout 18 which does not project beyond the outer surface of the vessel. The glass vessel is formed with a notch 5.
