Abstract

6703. Pilling, J. March 20. Guards, controlling.-Relates to a locking- device for the cylinder door of a carding- engine, which is in operation as long as the fast pulley is rotating, but which allows the cylinder to be rotated when the grinding or stripping roller is in position, the removal of the grinding or like roller causing the fast pulley to be locked, and only being possible when the cylinder is stationary. A number of segmental projections B are arranged on the back of the fast pulley, and a bar D, which is mounted to slide in supports C, C<1>, is connected to a lever J engaging a pin on the door H. The bar D carries a projection E in the same plane as the projections B and capable, when the fast pulley is stationary, of being moved as the door is opened to engage with one of the spaces B' between the projections B, and so lock the fast pulley. The stripping or grinding roller Y carries a lever N, one end N<2> of which engages a slotted bracket 0, and an inclined slot N<1> in which takes over a pin E<2> on the bar D and moves it along, so that the projection E moves from the space B', thus allowing the pulley and cylinder to rotate. The grinding or like roller Y can only be removed when the pulley is stationary; its removal moves the bar D along into the position where the projection E locks the fast pulley.
