Abstract

6073. Schindler, A. March 13. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Buildings constructed to resist earthquakes.- An elastic skeleton of wood or iron is secured to the ground by short anchors, which break off when the ground or foundation vibrates. Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of a dwelling- house. The skeleton k is covered, onboth sides with wire-gauze r, and the space between the gauze coverings is packed with heatinsulating material such as slagwool or bricks made of kieselguhr. The outside is then cemented, and the inside is plastered. The floor consists of joists V supported, if necessary, by a trussed beam and covered above and below by wire-gauze embedded in cement. The roof is made in the same way as the floors, and is covered with slates made of asbestos and cement or tarred cardboard; large - meshed galvanized wire-gauze is applied over the slates. The entire skeleton may rest on a mattress of compressed felt or other elastic material.
