Cutting and slicing vegetables &c.-In a machine with a rotating cutting-drum c for cutting roots, turnips, &c., a number of double-edged knives g are rotatably mounted on a shaft e. The knives are circularly curved, and are reciprocated from a crank-shaft f, the cranks of which work in fork-shaped extensions of the knives g. The shaft f is driven from the drum shaft b. A circularly curved cover i is hinged to the hopper, and is adapted to press the roots &c. against the knives and drum. Suitable pressure may be applied to the cover.
