Abstract

4247. White & Co., J. S., Carnt, E. C., and Forster, A. Feb. 20. Spray burners.-In a sprayer for liquid fuel, the fuel is regulated by varying the number of supply passages which communicate between the reservoir of oil under pressure and the n zzle. In the modification shown in Figs. 2 and 3, this regulation is effected by turning the conical k oss 7 on the surface of which the supply passages 1 are cut in spiral form, and thereby varying the number of the supply paseages in communication with the oil ports 14. The oil is discharged with a tangential velocity into the chamber 21, from whence it escapes through the spraying-nozzle 22. A pointer on the valve spindle indicates the number of open passages. Cold thick oils may be sprayed by being discharged between a shouldered portion 33, Fig. 13, of a spindle which passes through the nozzle, and the nozzle itself. This shouldered portion may be screwed back through the nozzle and may be thus put out of action when the oil is liquid enough to be sprayed by whirling in the chamber 21.
