Abstract

2266. Lane, E. J. Jan. 30. Ball bearings; supporting and mounting bearings. -A ball bearing, for the vertical spindles of hydroextractors, is mounted in a casting k, which bas in its lower part a groove o of V or other suitable section. A similar groove is formed in a fixed casting q, and lying in the grooves is an elastic buffer p of rubber &c. The castings k, q are connected together by a bolt r, the bead of which and the nut v or a washer u have spherical seatings on bushes s, t. The spindle e is free to oscillate under unequal loading. If the cage of the extractor is suspended instead of being underdriven, the bearing and buffer ring are placed at the top of the spindle e. The ball-bearing bush on the spindle has a conical bore at each end. One end fits on a coned portion of the spindle, and into the other end a coned sleeve is forced by a nut, as shown in Fig. 2.
