Spring motor-starting devices.-A means for starting the motion of motor road vehicle from the driver's seat comprises a pulley attached to the crank-shaft, on which is wound a cable operated by a spring situated longitudinally of the vehicle at the side opposite to the driver. Means for setting the mechanism by hand or by the engine is also described. Fig. 1 shows the general arrangement, Fig. 2 a detail view in section, and Fig. 3 a sectional view on the plane C-D. The spring h, attached to the cable e, starts the motor by turning the pulley c, back motion being prevented by the pawl k. The cable f serves to put the spring under tension. One end enwraps the pulley c in the opposite direction to the cable e; the other end may be wound on a drum m loosely mounted on the shaft n. A ratchet-wheel s, rigidly attached to the drum m, may be operated by the ratchet v and hand-lever u.
