Ladders; scaffolding and staging.-Telescopic ladders are provided on their upper sections with platforms, which are automatically operated when the upper sections are raised and lowered. The upper section is raised by means of ropes d wound on a drum e held by a ratchet, and is pressed against the lower section by pivoted levers l which are forced against the upper section by cross-bars k. These are pivoted on the lower section and are tilted by means of ropes g, which are secured at one end to the cross-bars k and are passed over a series of guide-rollers i to a winding-drum h. ThÚ folding platform m, provided with a pivoted railing o, is slidably engaged between two cross-bars z on the upper end of a two-armed pivoted frame n, operated by the engagement of'the lower arms q with projections r on the top of the lower section, the railing o being operated by the engagement of the cross-bars z with hooks o' attached to the pivoted ends of the railing. The ladder is supported in an inclined position by two telescopic legs s connected by adjustable cross-stays t, which are connected together by a stay u.
