Abstract

448. Drabble, H. Jan. 7. Toasting-stoves.-A gas-stove or gas-heated appliance for toasting bread consists of a wedgeshaped perforated body, Fig. 3, fitted above a gas-burner 1, or of a truncated perforated pyramid 15, Fig. 5, which is shown as separate from, but may be fitted in combination with, a ring-shaped or other gas burner for heating it. The body of the stove shown in Fig. 3 is attached by hinges 3 to the bottom frame 2. It consists of a plain or corrugated perforated metal sheet 4 bent over a wire at the upper end of the wedge, and the ends are formed by imperforate plates. The sides are fitted with supports 7 for the slices of bread to be toasted. Inside the apparatus is an imperforate baffle 10, the edges of which are set near to the sides of the apparatus so as to deflect the combustion products against them. The device shown in Fig. 5 is similar, but has a flat top 14; the baffle 10 is attached to the sides of the toaster by lugs 18 at the middle of the sides, and its corners are turned up slightly.
