Smoke-consuming ; fire-bridges ; baffles. - Air from the ash-pit of a boiler furnace passes through tapering passages e having flared outlets, and is delivered to the gases as they enter a secondary combustion chamber i formed between the back of the bridge and a baffle j. The lower part of this chamber is lined with fire-clay blocks m forming a support for the baffle j.
