Abstract
8667. Sutton, C. J. April 15, Incandescent gas lamps, placing mantles on burners of. In packing a gas mantle, a sheet a, Fig. 2, of paper or other material is folded into a coil which is placed round the mantle d, Fig. 1, its edges f being left free so as to contact with the surface of the mantle and be held in place by its resilience. The cover g fits within the upper part of the enclosing-box, so as to prevent lateral movemeht of the device and to serve also as a means by which it may be withdrawn. The sheet a may be strengthened by an additional layer or layers b of paper, by a wire or sheet-metal strip passing through-slits in the sheet, or by an outer sheet of corrugated paper. A ring of paper, caoutchouc, or the like or a piece of wire may be passed over the sheet when folded. The device may be used for placing the mantle on the burner, and advertisements or other matter may be printed on the sheet a and flap g or the enclosing paper ring.
