Abstract

2462. Smith, J. H., and Merckens, W. Feb. 3, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Void. [Published under Patents &c. Act, 1907.] Colour photography ; sensitized plates &c.-The following substances are used as sensitizers for bleaching-out colours employed in the bleaching- out process ; the halogen substitution products of the alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and acids, and of the benzol derivatives ; bodies derived from the phenol ethers (anethol is however known to act as a sensitizer); the halogen hydrins (especially glycolchlorhydrin), and the clorine and bromine hydrins of glycerin. The action of the halogen hydrins increases in proportion to the amount of halogen in the molecule. While it is more advantageous to employ the phenol ethers in alcoholic solution in combination with peroxide of hydrogen for subsequent sensitizing, it is better to use the halogen hydrins in the emulsion, followed by an acid sensitizing - bath. The alcohols, acetones, benzols, and their homologues are preferably employed as solvents for the sensitizing-bodies, even though they should be soluble in water.
