Abstract

28,078. Thomas, T. Dec. 10. Traps.-A trap for killing rabbits, rats, birds, or other animals or vermin has a stamped metal base a. One end c is turned up to carry a catch d, and the forked end b also bends upwards, the curved striking-arm h passing between the points. The striking-arm is pivoted to an upright g', the pivot carrying also a spring i ; the upright acts as a rivet to secure the plate g to the base. The plate g has a projection j<1> against which one end of the spring presses. On the striking-arm is a pin h<1> which, when in the set position shown in dotted lines, is held down by the catch d, which fits under a projection f<1> on the tread-plate arm f. This arm is divided to carry two tread plates f<3>. A safety hook k holds the striker while the trap is being set, and an anchor chain k<2> is provided. In modified forms, a single tread plate working in an aperture in, or in a frame forming part of, the base-plate is used, and the striking-arm may have the form of a rectangular frame.
