Abstract

26,249. Anton, F. Dec. 16. Parallel knitting - machines.-Tubular hosiery with weft-thread insertions is produced on parallel knitting - machines which have in addition to the ordinary needles e, Fig. 2, half their number of subsidiary needles b, both sets of needles being provided with bows a, g, respectively. After a new thread has been laid, the subsidiary needles b are advanced into the old loops d, Fig. 9, opened by the bows a, so that, as the needles e retire in order to knock over the old loops, the loops d are caught on the subsidiary needles b as shown in Fie. 10. The needles b, e are then drawn apart and the weft thread f laid on loops c, d, Fig. 11, by means of a separate threadcarrier. The needles bare then advanced through the loops d to get the latter behind their latches and are opened by the bows g, and the needles e raised into these loops. A fresh thread is then laid as shown in Fig. 13 and the needles bare withdrawn, leaving both loops e, d with the thread f between them on the needles e. The subsidiary needle bed is then shogged sideways one needle space and the needles advanced into the loops on the opposite main needles as shown in Fig. 9. All the loops are then knocked over by the withdrawal of the main needles e, and the cycle of operations is repeated. Fig. 7 shows the appearance of the fabric produced. Specifications No. 6939, A.D. 1895, No. 21,660, A.D. 1902, and No. 27,730, A.D. 1903 are referred to.
