Abstract

13,551. Stroud, J. S. G. W. July 1. Motor road vehicles.-Relates to change-speed and reversing gear in which the changes of speed are effected by operating a system of sliding rods. Fig. 1 shows a plan and Fig. 2 an elevation of the operating-devices. The spindle b, mounted in bearings 14, 15, is moved longitudinally to select any one of the sliding rods 9, 10, 11, and is then rotated so that the arm f fixed to it operates by a longitudinal movement the particular rod selected. The movement of the spindle b is constrained by the hand operating-lever a which moves in the suitably-shaped sector c. The arm f engages in notches in the sliding rods, and the rods which are not selected for operation are locked in their neutral positions by a sliding frame e, which is guided so as to follow the longitudinal adjustments of the spindle b. In a modification, the sliding frame e is disposed horizontally.
