Abstract

11,760. W e g e r i f, J. C. June 5. Edge-runners and pans. -The conical grinding- rolls B, Figs. 1 and 2, of a pan-and-roller mill are mounted on inclined axles L in U-shaped frames or yokes D attached to or integral wit h vertical rams E, which can slide in bearings J in arms C carried by the central pillar S of the mill. Pressure is applied to the ram by helical springs F confined between plates f, f<1> and adjusted by a screw G. The bush H through which the ram slides is adjustable angularly in its bearing J to enable the roller B to be set askew to the raised horizontal grinding-race A, the bush being locked in the adjusted position by bolts K passing through slots k in a flange h of the bush. The bolts K may form downward prolongations of the guiderods g<1>. Each roll consists of a renewable outer shell fixed on an inner body portion B', with ball bearings l, l<1> interposed between the roll body B<1> and the axle L. The inner and outer ends of the rollers are made concave and convex, respectively, so that the width of each roller remains unaltered, as it wears. The pan is supported on conical antifriction rollers N, and rotated by bevel-gearing To prevent lateral displacement, the pan may have a vertical rim Q which may form the inner wall of the pan, and against which antifric. tion rollers R bear. The bearings r<1> for the spindles of the rollers Rare mounted on the inside of the pillar S, and the rollers project through apertures in the wall of the pillar. Inner and outer screens U', U<2> formed of or covered with straining-fabric are provided for the pan, the liquid passing by nozzles v<1> and lips v<2> into annular launders V<1>, V<2>.
