Abstract

D u s t - collectors.-Relates to machines for purifying middlings and the like by means of a current of air directed through the material passing over an inclined vibrating s i e v e. The machine also comprises means for depositing and removing the light particles carried away by the current of air. Fig. 2 shows the machine in cross-section. The vibrating sieve 1 is mounted and driven in the usual way, and is fitted with depositing- surfaces 7 at each side and with deflecting-plates 4, of the cross-section shown, over the sifting- surface 2. A horizontal division 14 with a central opening 15 is placed over the sieve. The width of the opening 15 is regulated by means of adjustable hinged shutters 16. A baffle 19 is placed over the opening 15. The air current passes from the opening 15 to the inlet 20 of the fan 6, which directs the current through a passage 21 into a dust-separator, which is preferably of the centrifugal kind and is built into the machine. A modified form of machine is described which is adapted for use with coarser materials, and in which a more intense air current can be employed. The sieve is divided into two portions placed in line tail to tail. A separate feed-shoot is provided for each portion, but the dust from both portions is discharged into a common shoot. An adjustable dead-plate may be placed over a portion of the sieve to break the air current and allow small particles to pass through. The air currents pass to a centrifugal dust-collector through which they are drawn by a fan situated at the outlet. If desired, the portions of the sieve may be placed head to head instead of tail to tail, and the other parts of the machine correspondingly re-arranged.
