Abstract
7417. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. April 7. Semaphore and lamp signals of automatic type. The signal is supported by a post 1 the lower end of which is mounted in a socket 2, beneath which is a box or case 3 for the reception of the track relay &c. The signalling-appliances are capable of rotational adjustment with respect to the post 1 by means of a socket 6, the ladder 8 being secured to the socket so as to be carried with it when the semaphore and lamps are adjusted on the post. The casing 7 which carries the socket 6 is provided with brackets for the reception of two lamps 10, 11, and the semaphore casting 14 is mounted directly on the driving-shaft of the signal-operating mechanism enclosed by the casing 7. This mechanism may be of the character described in Specification No. 7422, A.D. 1905. The semaphore casting has three apertures 15, 16, 17, which can be brought into register with the lens of the lamp 10, and four apertures 18, 19, 20, 21 adapted to register with the lamp 11. In the vertical or 'line clear' position of the semaphore signal 30, the lamps 10, 11 are both uncovered, no coloured glass being fitted to the aperture 18. In the 'caution' position of the semaphore, when it is inclined at 45 degrees, the apertures 15, 19 are in front of the lamps, both being fitted with green lenses. The apertures 16, 20 which come before the lamps in the horizontal or danger position contain red-coloured lenses, and amber or other coloured lenses are used for the apertures 17, 21, which come into use when the semaphore is raised into the distinctive danger' position, at an inclination of 135 degrees, for certain purposes. Fig. 3 shows the arrangement of stop lugs 22, 23, 24, 25 on the semaphore casting and of the lugs 26, 27, 28, 29 on the housing or casing 7. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the range of action is only ninety degrees. If a movement of 135 degrees is required, the lugs 27, 29 are removed from the housing.
