Abstract

18,090. Justice, P. M., [Bethlehem Steel Co.]. Aug. 20. Loading-appliances.-Relates to rammers for ordnance for use in turrets and other contracted spaces, and to means for loading guns without altering their inclinations. Side beams 16, 17, Figs. 1 and 2, extending from a cradle 15 in which the gun recoils, and bent at right-angles and meeting at their rear ends, form guides for two chains X, Y, Fig. 14, which consist of alternate high and low notched links, and are flexible when separated, but rigid when interlocked. The chains, connected to a head Z, are operated simultaneously by sprocket-wheels 35, Fig. 2, driven by bevel gearing from a motor 37, and have rollers 33 running in grooves 38 in the chain-guides 20. The form of the chains and the mode of actuating them may be varied. The track 13, Fig. 1, for the ammunitioncarrier 14, is concentric with the trunnions for part of its length, so as to permit loading at any elevation.
