Abstract

17,769. Gunton, F. W. Aug. 16. Motor cycles ; passengers, for conveying ; driving - mechanism ; frames.-A side carriage is fitted to an ordinary bicycle or motor bicycle and the frame is constructed with swivel joints so that the wheels and seat of the side carriage are always parallel to the bicycle wheels and seat respectively, and means are provided for locking the carriage in an upright position. The wheel u of the carriage is keyed to a short spindle which passes through the bearing 10. The bearing 10 has arms c, c<1> projecting up and down, the upper arms being hinged to a crosstube e, the lower arms to a pair of tubes d, d'. The frame of the cycle carries a triangular piece to which the tubes d, d<1>, e are hinged at the points 1, 6, 2, respectively. The tube e has a sleeve h to which is hinged the vertical bar 12, pivoted on the lower tube'd and connected by a T-piece 13 to a cross-piece 14 from which is supported through springs the body a. The sleeve h is pivotally connected to the tube d by a telescopic arrangement with piston m and springs i. On the other side, the sleeve is connected to the tube d by a sliding tube h<1> having a notch and catch o by which the frame may be locked, the catch being operated by a handle p and a Bowden wire. Springs f serve to control the swinging of the body. The front of the carriage frame may be connected to a bracket fixed on the fore part of the bicycle.
