Abstract
12,115. K÷hler, G. E. May 27. Calliper gauges.-Callipers are constructed so that they can be used either as obstacle or ordinary callipers with an exact setting. The construction is shown as applied to external callipers, but is similar for internal callipers, and, by crossing the legs of the external callipers, they can be used forinternal measurement. Fixed to one leg is a conical pin 5, on which fits an adjusting pointer 3, which may be secured from rotation by a nut 9, bearing on a washer 7. This washer is fixed by a pin 6. A small screw 10 prevents the removal of the nut 9. The leg 2 rotates on a cylindrical part of the pointer 3. In the hollow part of the pointer is a spring 4, the legs 15, 16 of which bear against the inside of the pointer, but are retained by pins 17,18 fixed to the leg 2 when the pointer is displaced relatively to the leg. To a pin 22 is screwed a nut 23, against the conical surface of which the end 25 of the pointer bears. A screw 26 fixed to the leg 2 works in a small slot 28 in the pointer. When the callipers are used for obstacle measuring, the legs are adjusted, and the pointer is then fixed by means of the nut 9. The legs can still be opened, but, on releasing them, the spring leg 16 bearing against the pin 18 returns the legs to their former position. In these movements, the screw 26 slides in the slot 28. When the pointer is placed on the other side of the nut 23, the pin reaches the end of the slot, and the callipers can only be used in the ordinary way. By unscrewing the nut, some play is obtained between the pin and the pointer, and, when the nut 9 is fixed, ordinary callipers are produced with fixed adjustment.
