Abstract
4994. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. Feb. 29. Producing coloured photographs; sensitized plates and films; printing.-Coloured photographic prints are produced by using as the sensitized material leuco-bodies of orgamc dye-stuffs mixed with a substance containing one or more nitrogen-oxygen groups which can be eliminated. Examples of this latter kind of substance are the nitric acid esters of the carbohydrates, such as nitro-cellulose. If, for example, a solution of leuco-malachite-green in alcohol or ether be mixed with some collodion, and the whole be poured on baryta-paper, this paper, when exposed under a negative, gives a clear green positive. The image is fixed by dissolving off the unconsumed leuco-body by the aid of solvents such as chloroform, the hydrocarbons of the benzene series &c. The sensitiveness of the preparation is increased by the addition of traces of certain oxygen carriers such as platinic chloride, quinoline; &c. By this process, photographic images of any colour may be obtained, and the process is thus especially suitable for tri-colour photography.
