Abstract
4294. Krueger, O. Feb. 20. Malting.-A germinating and drying malt drum has special cooling and heating arrangements for the germinating and drying processes and is divided i n t o sections by partitions, arranged either radially or parallel to the axis of the drum. The sections are again divided into two chambers of unequal size, which are connected by sliding valves 6 so that, on turning the drum, the contents of one chamber can pass automatically into another. In front of the pipes 3, which supply cooled air, may be arranged separate pipes 8, Fig. 4, which can be used for heating and cooling the malt, the air in it, or the air in the pipes 3. In the form shown in Fig. 2, combined ventilating and cooling or heating pipes 10 are used, so that the air escaping from the air pipe meets the cooling or heating pipe, and is thus rendered suitable for further use. The air from the pipes 3 escapes through surrounding channels 4, or by the central pipe 5, or in some cases through the netted cover of the drum.
