Abstract
2162. Sadler, W. F. Jan. 28. Testing.-Means for facilitating the counting of the warps and wefts of woven fabrics comprise a sheet-metal or other box a, which is open at the top and is provided round three sides of the opening with channels b into which is inserted a plate, of opal glass, mica, or other translucent material, secured by a turn-button d. An incandescent electric lamp f is secured in a holder e fitted at one end of the box, and electricity may be supplied from the mains, or from a primary battery or an accumulator, which may be carried within the box. The box is provided with india-rubber or other feet j, and with holes k to permit air circulation through the box, to cool it. For this purpose, also, the box may have corrugated sides to provide a larger surface for dissipating the heat, or it may have an inner or outer casing of wood &c. The box may be introduced between folds of fabric, or a layer of fabric m may be laid on the plate c, so that it may be inspected by means of the counting- glass n. The box may be provided with a heatinsulating handle, or with a. heat insulator between the box and the handle, or between the box and the lamp holder. The bottom of the box may be omitted, or an open wirework or other frame may be used instead of the box.
