Jacquards.-In a modified Kidderminster carpet jacquard used in weaving woollen rugs with cotton warps, the binder is worked independently of the pattern by means of a separate set of cards, and one tabby board is reversed and the patternforming needles are re-arranged so as to allow a saving of cards, an enlargement of repeat design, and an increased range of pattern. The comberboard is replaced by the lifters H, J, K, L, Fig. 4, which control one-quarter of the warp each and are connected by eye-bolts R and rods P, Fig. 2, to the bottom lifting-boards S, T, U, V. The latter are raised, for filling in the binder, by the rocking knives Y, which are brought into engagement with lifting-rails 2 by means of needles X, (shown in broken lines), operated by an auxiliary set of cards Z. With the tie-up employed for forming the pattern, each band E<1>, controlled by pattern needles G and lifted by the trap boards A, B, is connected to two bands W which pass severally through separate lifters H, J, &c., operated alternately. Two picks are obtained for each operation of the cards, and since the keyhole slots in the boards A, B all point the same way and the eyes of the needles G are arranged as shown, the harness lifted by the board A corresponds to that lifted at the previous pick by the board B and forms a repeat of the design. In addition, one of the lifters H, J, K, L is selected at each pick by the cards Z.
