16,083. Lake, H. H., [National Package Machine Co.]. July 21. Parcelling soap tablets &c.-Relates to machines adapted to cut printed blanks from a web of paper preparatory to wrapping-up soap &c. A web m<1>, which has been printed in the web with proper labels and simultaneously received perforations at regular intervals, is fed, together with a web m<1> to form the inner wrappers, between cutters S, S', by means of a pair of intergeared and superposed rollers N, Q. The upper cutter S is stationary on a plate A', the under one being on a rocker not shown. The upper roller Q is mounted in vertically-sliding bearings Q<1>, so that it can be lifted to interrupt the feed by means of a rocking shaft Q<3> having arms Q' under the bearings. The rocking shaft ends in a toothed sector Q<4>, and the top of a lever U, which is operated by a cam, carries an arm R<1> to engage the sector and an electromagnet R<5> to make it do so. When one of the apertures in the web comes under an aperture S<4> in the upper blade, a spring feeler T touches a binding- screw T' in the plate A<1> and so completes the circuit. The rollers are driven intermittently by ratchet-mechanism and a cam and lever which have such a stroke that, without the electrical arrangement, the paper would be overfed, but, the cut being timed to occur at the end of the stroke, the electrical arrangement suspends the feed when the exact length required is delivered. The electrical arrangements, instead of lifting a roller, may disengage the driving-ratchet by lifting off the pawl in one of several similar ways detailed in the Specification.
