Expansion joints.-Relates to that form of expansion joint in which two stuffing-boxes are placed over the pipe, and is intended to dispense with the slotted pipe and the water casing surrounding it. The pipe c is held between the two, stuffing-boxes a, a<\> which are connected by ties b, as shown in Fig. 1. The fluid enters by the branches shown, in order to prevent e3dying. Fig. 1 shows the stufflog-box a<l> closed. Fig. 5 shows a modification, in which a valve is fitted to the pipe c, and Fig. 7 shows the application to the steam pipes of boilers, the valves f, g, h being directly attached to the boilers.
