Abstract

Driving-gear for screw propellers. - In certain gearing in which pinions are used for reverse driving, the forward and reverse speeds of the driven shaft are not identical. To obviate this, especially for driving screw propellers, gearing is arranged as shown. The flywheel a on the driving-shaft forms with the disc b on the driven shaft m a friction clutch, through which the shaft m is driven directly. For the reverse, the rim p of the flywheel drives friction wheels g, h mounted on the same spindles as the pinions d, e which engage the spur-wheel c. The friction wheels g, h are held up to their work by their extensions i, k bearing on the track q. When the hand-lever n is moved from R to H, the shaft m is advanced and the wheel c is disengaged from the pinions d, e. If the lever is afterwards moved on to V, the frame f is moved forwards, disengaging the friction wheels g, h from the rim p and bringing the disc b into contact with the wheel a.
