Abstract
28,539. Favarger, A. Dec. 24. Indicating at a distance electrically.-Relates to electrom a g n e t i c apparatus for producing synchronous movements by means of alternating currents, applicable to electric indicators. In its simplest form, the apparatus consists of an electromagnet E, provided with toothed or beaked pole-pieces p, p<1>, and an armature in the shape of an iron or steel disc, formed with ratchet teeth, and polarized by a permanent steel magnet A. The arrangement is such that, when the pole-piece p is immediately opposite an armature tooth, the polepiece p' is opposite a space between two armature teeth. When an alternating current is sent through the magnet E, the armature rotates through the space of half a tooth with each alternation of the current. Several modifications are described. In one of these, the pole-pieces are each formed with a number of teeth. In another, both the pole-piece and the armature are in the form of discs having teeth on their opposed surfaces. In a further construction, the armature consists of a pair of toothed discs, arranged side by side between a pair of beaked pole-pieces, or between two pairs of beaked pole-pieces. Finally, the armature may be polarized by a coil carrying a continuous current instead of by a permanent magnet.
