Abstract

190,158. Soc. Anon. de Construction de MatÚriel d'Alimentation. Dec. 6, 1921, [Convention date]. Bottling.-Relates to machines for filling bottles &c. with gas charged liquids. The liquid is saturated to a greater extent than is required for bottling and is delivered to a container or recuperator from which the bottle is to be supplied, causing the gas in the container above the liquid to be under pressure which serves to supply a dose of syrup or gas to the bottle. In the form shown, the recuperator comprises a container 13 enclosing a second open bottomed container 14 and with nozzles 15, 16 above and below the level of the liquid respectively. Gascharged liquid is introduced into the recuperator through a nozzle 17 and causes floats 23, 24 to rise and cut off the outflow of gas through nozzles 22, 19 respectively and creating pressure. A cock, Fig. 2, diagrammatic sections at AB, CD, and EF of which are shown in three positions each in Fig. 8, is connected to the recuperator at 15 above the level of the liquid, and the bottle 9 is connected at 16 below this level. The cock is turned to the position I, Fig. 8, and the nozzle 19 is opened. Liquid flows through a pipe 36 to the bottle and displaces the air content through connections 12a, 12, 4, 4, 15 to the recuperator. A dose of syrup flows from the syrup tank 6 through connections 6, 6, 8, 8a to the dosing device 8, from which air escapes to the atmosphere through connections 7, 7, 10. The exit of the liquid from the recuperator causes the floats 23, 24 to fall, gas escaping at 17 and air at 19. A new liquid charge is admitted at 17 before the air from the bottle can escape from the nozzle 19 and the cock is turned to position II, Fig. 8. The compressed air passes through connections 15, 5a, 5, 7, 7 to the closing device 8h and expels syrup to the bottle through connections 8, 8, 11, 11. The cock is then rotated to position III and the closing device is replenished through connections 6a, 6, 8, 8a, the air under pressure escaping to the atmosphere through connections 7, 7, 10. Excess liquid escapes from the bottle through connections 12a, 12, 30, 3, 3, and the cycle of operations is complete. The apparatus may be modified for gas closing instead of syrup closing by connected the nozzle 5 to the bottle instead of to the recuperator and opening the nozzle 7 to the air. The inner cylinder 14 may be dispensed with.
