Abstract
15,836. Bennison, S. Aug. 6. Ships' trim, indicating.-In this combined draught, pitch, and list indicator, the pitch and list of the vessel are, respectively, indicated by the movement relatively to the scales f<1>, f of the triangles d<1>, d or their equivalents, which are pivoted at their upper ends to the slit and graduated tube b<1> protecting the gauge glass of the draught indicator. The gauge glass communicates by the valves a<2>, a<3> and the T-piece a<1> with the tube a, which passes through the keel of the vessel. Thus, when the valves a<2>, a<3> are open, the water rises in the gauge glass, and the draught of the vessel may be read off on the scale b<2>. Spirit levels g, h are mounted upon the parts d, e and d', e<1>, and the upper or lower part of the pipe a may be blown out or cleaned by connecting the T-piece a' to a steam or water pipe and manipulating the valves a', a<3>.
