Abstract
14,879. Melhuish, A. G. July 22. Gas and explosive-vapour engines.-The motor piston 1 acts as a valve in a two-stroke cycle engine. On its uncovering a port 2 some of the exhaust escapes through the passage 9 and annular recess 10 in the piston to the exhaust port 5. The port 3 is covered by the further movement of the piston, and the admission port 4 is uncovered ; a charge is drawn in and directed by the baffle 8 to the end of the conical combustion chamber 7, expelling the burnt gases towards the exhaust port 2, whence they escape when the piston uncovers the port 3 on the in-stroke.
