Couplings, disconnectible.-Relates to couplings for flexible pipes containing gases or liquids, at pressures greater or less than atmospheric pressure. The pipes to be joined are fitted with similar couplings, one coupling being shown in section in Fig. 3. The box or shell a is provided with two curved projecting flanges m, n, and contains the conical socket c, which serves as a seat for the hollow plug d. The socket c and the plug d have three or more apertures h<1> an i h arranged around, and the angular displacement of the plug d is limited by the stud i, which slides in a slot of suitable length in the socket c. The screw cap e and the spring g press the socket c and the plug d into position, the strength of the spring depending on the fluid pressure. The socket c is prevented from rotating by a projection fitting into a groove in the shell. Quarter circle lugs k are formed at the upper edge of the plug d. A lateral hole o for connecting the interior of the coupling and the atmosphere is provided. In coupling up, the lugs on one plug engage with the notches on the other plug, the couplings are placed at right-angles to one another, and one is then turned until the flanges m, n engage and the flanges m abut. The apertures h and h<1> then correspond. The washer may be given a Z-shape. In a slightly-modified form of coupling with four apertures h, h<1>, the cap e screws into the case a above the bottom of the plug, so that the case or shell is lessened in height.
