Abstract
8779. Whitcher, J., Lea, A. H., Evans, D. J., and Toller, E. P., [Executors of Warren, C. H.]. May 12. Switches; cut-outs.-The sliding bar or tube A is adapted to bridge the fixed contacts B and C, the former serving as a guide-frame, and is operated in the form shown in Fig. 1 by a handle H fitted in rollers working in slots in a sleeve D, which is fitted with a spring E to give a quick break. A fuse wire connects the terminal L with the contact or guide-frame B. The switch shown in Fig. 2 is arranged to break the circuit in two points. The bars A has a sleeve at one end which slides in the guide-frame B. When the switch is "on," this sleeve enters the contact D. The handle H is not pivoted, but is provided with pins G working in horizontal and vertical slots in the frame B. On moving the handle, the tube A and sleeve are withdrawn simultaneously from the contacts. A fuse wire connects the contact C and terminal L. The switches may be arranged as double-pole or throwover switches &c. or fitted with sparking contacts &c., or with magnetic release mechanism.
