Abstract
10,296. Lount, S. May 16. Steam turbines.-Fig. 1 shows in sectional elevation an outward-flow steam turbine. Steam entering by pipes J acts upon inclined vanes D on one or both sides of the disc a and intermeshing with stationary oppositely-inclined guide-blades H. The vanes and guide-blades form part of sheet-steel strips, which engage annular recesses in the disc a and the casing respectively. The exhaust L may communicate with another turbine. When vanes are used on only one side of the disc, the shaft is provided with thrust collars. This device may be used for compressing elastic fluids.
