Abstract

26,012. Taylor, A. Dec. 9. Carding-engines.-Relates to means for connecting and disconnecting the flats from the chains. Between the links 1 of the chain is a shank or distance-piece 4 carrying a tube, of which the lower half is cut away for the greater portion of its length and the remainder is cut away for only about a third of the diameter of the tube, so as to form inwardly-directed projections 5. A stud 6 of two diameters is screwed into the end of the flat, and, when partially withdrawn as shown in Fig. 3, can be detached from the tube of the shank 4, but when in position and screwed up into the flat is locked to the tube by reason of the larger diameter of the stud engaging with the projections 5. The stud in the flat may have flattened sides, as described in Specification No. 14,750, A.D. 1898, in which case the tubular part of the shank would have only a third part of its diameter cut away throughout its whole length. Or the links of the chain may be pivoted together by means of internally-threaded bushes into which studs for engaging with the ends of the flats are screwed.
