Abstract

22,591. Farrer, F. T., and Brown, W. W. Oct. 27. Stopping pipes. - Relates to apparatus, more particularly applicable for stopping drain pipes for testing purposes, and consisting of an ex. pansible bag, shown in longitudinal section in Fig. 1. A cylindrical india-rubber bag A is closed at one end and attached at the other to a flanged pipe B. Surrounding the bag is the cylindrical canvas cover C, the diameter of which corresponds with that of the pipe to be stopped. The cover is closed at the ends by radial seams as in a football, one end having a slit, through which the bag can be inserted, and which is then laced up. The stopper having been placed in position in the drain, the pipe B is connected to an air pump and the bag inflated. Fig. 3 shows a modified method of attaching the tube B to the bag A. An intermediate cover, between the bag A and cover C, may be used.
