Abstract

23,832. Huggins, W., and M'Callum, D. Oct. 16. Steam &c. turbines. -The fluid passes through a series of guide-rings 24 and wheels 22, in a path parallel to the axis, or inclined to or from the axis, or spirally away from or, as shown, towards the axis. The wheels are advantageously cast in one. The apertures in the first guide-ring 13 are controlled by a sliding ring having corresponding ports, and operated by a governor or by hand. The apertures in ectch guide-ring are separated into groups and are arranged, as shown in Fig. 7, so that fluid can pass through the turbine only when it is rotating.
