Abstract

12,211. Nave, F. F. M. A. Nov. 17, A.D. 1896, [date claimed under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Distributing.-Consists of an improved method of propelling road vehicles by means of electricity taken from two overhead wires. Fig. 10 shows one form of trolley used when the wires rest on their supports. The rollers are supported on brackets sliding on an axle B and jointed to a rod D, so that, when the latter is raised, the brackets are drawn together and the trolley can be passed between the cables. The cord K connects the rod D to the vehicle. Modifications of the trolley are described suitable to various relative arrangements of the two cables. The pole for lifting the trolley, Fig. 12, is pivoted horizontally and vertically, and is held in any desired position by the cord Q and counter-spring S. Its upper end is forked to engage the rod D, projections on it at the same time supporting the axle B. The cord K may pass round a pulley at the upper end of the pole, to a spring drum pivoted on a platform fixed to the vertical pivot of the pole ; or, like the cord Q, it may pass between pulleys H, H<1>. Fig. 20 shows one form of trolley when the cables are suspended, modifications for various arrangements of cables being described. It consists of a U -piece pivoted by a double joint to the pole.
