Abstract

189,551. Glascodine, R. T., and Wood- Milne, Ltd. Sept. 2, 1921. Balls.-A golf ball is provided with triangular surface markings all of the same area produced by symmetrically arranged great circles in the form of ridges or grooves crossing one another at nodal points symmetrically located. In the form shown in Fig. 1, ridges 1, similar to the lands used in gun rifling, are arranged in nine great circles intersecting so as to form fortyeight triangular recesses 5 of equal area and of similar shape. The triangular recesses may be bisected by ridges 6, Fig. 3, which join up in zigzag manner approximating to a great circle. The triangles may be further subdivided. Depressions 7 may be symmetrically arranged at the points of intersection of the ridges. The great circles may be formed by grooves instead of by ridges and the grooves may be crossed by bars to avoid weakening the material. The great circles may be given a curve between the Doles and the curves mav alternately he right and left handed.
