Moulds; reciprocating-mould-table machines; tamping-machines.-A machine for moulding concrete blocks &c. comprises in combination a hopper a, a drop hammer c, and a mould carriage l reciprocating thereunder, the carriage l having a surface x, which cuts off the supply of material from the hopper, and pivoted side, front, and partition walls. The hopper a tapers from bottom to top, and is provided with an adjustable side plate, thus allowing the moulds to be supplied with excess material which forms a cushioning surface for the blow of the hammer c. The latter is supported on a rod d in a frame b, and is maintained in its raised position by a cross bar q pivoted at one end r and held by a spring s so as to engage a notch in the rod d. On rotating a hand wheel k, the carriage is moved by rack and pinion gearing on the shaft 'i from under the hopper a to beneath the hammer c, and on its movement strikes, by means of a projection w, a pivoted tappet v attached by a wire to the bar q, and thus releases the hammer c. Further rotation of the wheel k causes the hammer to be raised by the chains f and the carriage to pass under a scraper, which removes excess material, to a position where, the sides of the mould can be pivoted outwards and the moulded blocks removed on their pallet. The pallets 14, Fig. 4, are preferably of the stool type, having feet 32 which hang down on each side of the mould carriage, and may be used inverted, the front wall of the mould in such case being fixed in position and the pallets being removed vertically. The plunger head may comprise a plate 37, Fig. 8, having a wooden face 38 and a channel shaped metal box 39 with slots 41 corresponding to the mould partitions. A modification is described in which the mould carriage is driven and reversed through clutch mechanism.
