188,025. Bliss, J. July 1, 1921. Air and steam pressure sprayers.-The fuelsupply tube 10 of a liquid-fuel burner is secured at one end in a bored plug 11 which closes one end of a jacket 12 to which steam, hot air, or other atomizing-fluid or gas is supplied through an inlet 24. A nozzle 14 secured to the outlet end of the fuel tube has a cylindrical exterior middle portion 17 and a tapered extremity 18 fitting in a burner nozzle 19 which is tapered inwardly to a restriction 23 and then flared outwardly. The fuel passes through a restriction 16 in the nozzle 14 and issues into the nozzle 19 through an outwardly flared bore on which it is met and partially atomized by steam from the jacket space delivered through converging conduits 31. The atomization of the mixture is completed in the nozzle 19 by swirling streams of the steam delivered through inclined passages 21 in the cylindrical portion 17 of the nozzle 14 and the tapered annular space 22 between the nozzles 14, 19. The passages 21, 22 may alternatively be formed in the burner nozzle 19 or be partly in the fuel nozzle 14 and partly in the burner nozzle 19.
