Roller or ball and ring mills.-In a pulverizer with rollers or balls running on the inner wall of a casing, the casing is itself rotated about the axis around which the rollers &c. are rotated. As shown, the casing 1, Fig. 1, is mounted by its hollow journals 2, 3 in bearings 4, 5 and is rotated in the same direction as the shaft 10 which 'carries the multiple fork-piece 14 at the ends of which are pivoted the axes 16 of the crushing- rollers 17. A wheel 19 on the casing is driven through gearing from a wheel 46 on the shaft 10. The casing is made in two detachable parts connected by a joint 8, and carries the running-race 7 against which the rollers are pressed by springs 18. The hollow axis 16, Fig. 2, of the roller 17 is integral with a member 27, pivoted on the axis 15, and provided at one end with a screw 28 for the introduction of grease which passes through orifices 30 to the bearing-ring 29 of the roller. The roller has removable side-cheeks 31, 32, and a leather cup 33 with springs 34 between its side flanges is fitted between the cheek 31 and the member 27. The material passes from a hopper 39 to a channel 40, Fig. 3, where it is fed into the casing 1 by a rotary distributor working within a cylindrical body 43, Fig. 4. The distributor is formed with vertical paddles 47 and its shaft 45 is driven through gearing from the wheel 46. A helical incline 49 inclined towards the interior of the body 43 is formed by a rib, and a verticallyadjustable cylindrical shutter 41 is provided. A disc 25 on the shaft 10 projects the material to the periphery of the casing 1, and the pulverized material is carried out through the hollow trunnion 3 by the air current. Packings 23, 24 render the mill air-tight.
