Abstract

187,010. Pochin, F. H., Fochin, H. S., and Dove, G. H. July 11. 1921. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery.-Relates to presses for leather, and consists in means for engaging the driving clutch parts under spring pressure increasing the pressure during actual cutting and disengaging the clutch and applying a brake after one revolution. A main shaft 14 carries a clutch 13, 12 on one end and a brake drum 26 on the other. The clutch and the brake are oppositely actuated by a cross-connecting bar 15, influenced by a spring 36 and carrying a stop 34 and a cam roller 43. A second bar 30, pressed against the bar 15 by a spring, abuts on the stop 34 and carries a pin 46 actuated by a cam 44. In operation, when the treadle 28 is depressed the bar 30 is pushed forward clear of the stop 34 by a bell-crank (not shown), allowing the bar 15 to move under influence of the spring 36, thus engaging the clutch parts and holding off the brake. Rods 10, 11 attached to the press head descend and a cam 42 intensifies the pressure between the clutch parts, and the cam 44 places the bar 30 behind the stop 34 so that the cam 44 will restore both bars to their original position, disengage the clutch and apply the brake after one revolution.
