Abstract

186,604. Cummins, C. L. Sept. 27,1921, [Convention date]. Regulating. - Fuel from the chamber 29 is injected into the combustion chamber on the opening of the valve 45 by the products of a small explosion which takes place as the hot compressed air from the combustion chamber enters the chamber 29 and mixes with the fuel therein. The valve 45 is lifted by the cam 54 through the push-rod 52 and lever 50, and the timing of the opening of the valve may be varied by governor or hand controlled axial movement of the spiral cam 54. Fuel supplied by air pressure from the tank 22 enters the chamber 29 through a valve situated behind the injection valve 45 and independently actuated by the cam 41 through a push-rod (not shown) and the lever 34, which is mounted on an eccentric 35 rotatable by hand or by the governor to control the opening of the valve, and hence the amount of fuel admitted to the chamber 29.
